  • The Quorum of SARCAR shall be six. SARCAR may invite the concerned facility personnel/representative(s), if required, for considering special aspects, if any, of the agenda items placed before SARCAR.
  • SARCAR shall review and recommend actions on various types of applications/radiation safety issues referred by AERB, for:
    • granting of design/type approval of radioactive sources and/or equipment housing such sources, radiation generating equipment, radiation installations, transport packages, consumer products and other facilities/equipment, submitted by the manufacturers/suppliers/users.
    • Radiactive sources and radiation generating equipment in non-DAE facilities or any other specifically identified facilities.
    • transport of radiaoactive materials in public domain.
    • granting of authorisations for disposal of radioactive wastes generated in radiation facilities as per the Atomic Energy (Safe Disposal of Radio Active Wastes) Rules, 1987.
    • education & training programs and qualification of radiation professionals working in radiation facilities to meet the present and future reqirements of qualified and trained and trained manpower for radiation safety in radiation facilities.
  • SARCAR shall review cases referred by AERB pertaining to non-compliances of regulatory provisions, which lead to serious radiological consequences/radiation injuries and other unusual occurences in radiation facilities and/or during transport of radiactive material, and recommend remedial measures/preventive measures or regulatory enforcement actions as appropriate.
  • SARCAR shall advise AERB on,
    • policies related to establishment of radiation installation(s) for siting, design, construction, commissioning, operation and decommissioning under Atomic Energy (Radiation Protection) Rules, 2004.
    • changes in the regulatory policies and/or procedures pertaining to radiation facilities, based on operational safety, user feedback as wel as recommendations of the AERB Committees and other national and international organistions.
  • SARCAR shall undertake any other responsibilities assigned by AERB pertaining to safety in radiation facilities.
  • SARCAR may recommend constitution of task Groups/Working Group for carrying out specific tasks and/or invite experts to the committee to advise in discharging its responsibilities.
