AERB has adopted a formal code of ethics comprising of fundamental principles and core values. This code is followed by all employees in discharge of their duties for achieving the goals in accordance with the mission of AERB which is to ensure that the use of ionizing radiation and nuclear energy India does not cause undue risk to the health of people and the environment.

It is responsibility of the AERB professionals to realize that it is the ethical responsibility of everyone in AERB to uphold the highest standards of professional conduct in the performance of their professional duties. Also AERB professionals acknowledge their commitment to make a positive contribution to ensure and continually enhance safety in the use of nuclear energy and application of ionizing radiations for societal benefits in India and aspire to adhere to the core values articulated in this code of ethics. The code of ethics enlisted the fundamental principles that are considered as the guiding principles for ensuring compliance with the Atomic Energy Act, 1962, and the rules promulgated thereunder, in nuclear and radiation facilities and activities in India. The most important guiding principles are

1. The regulators should be respectful to all, peers, subordinates and licensees, and treat all individuals with dignity and courtesy;
2. High level of professional competence should be maintained through commitment to continual learning. The areas outside the expertise available in AERB should be identified;
3. High degree of honesty and integrity should be maintained. Application of regulations should be principled and consistent. Trustworthiness and living up to commitments should be the desired characteristics;
4. Actions should be taken in objective manner and regulatory decision making should be based on factual information and sound judgement without being influenced by competing and conflicting interest;
5. The regulators should have courage to make difficult decisions, if necessary, using all relevant facts and information to promote wise and fair decisions;
6. Application of legal and regulatory standards should be made equitably and impartially;
7. The views of all stakeholders should be considered in the decision making processes in appropriate manner.

The above mentioned guiding principles are based on the core values such as dutifulness, competence, objectivity, integrity, honesty, courage, fairness and respect.
